Ben Nevis (1344m), Scaffell Pike (978m)  and Snowdon (1085m) all in 24 hours. That is what awaits a group of accountants, financiers and reservists this coming May, when they attempt to raise money for the worthwhile cause of Maggies and Stepping Stones Uganda.

maggiesLogoMaggies is particularly close to the heart of the staff at Matthews & Co as a result of the personal experience of one staff member Sarah. In 2012 Sarah was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and throughout 2013 has been receiving both treatment and support from specialists, family, friends and colleagues. Wanting to draw attention to the great work undertaken by Maggies in incredibly difficult circumstances, Sarah has been enthused at the prospect of her colleagues undertaking the Three Peaks Challenge.

Stepping Stones Uganda was also chosen as a beneficiary of funds due to one of our own staff heading out to Uganda to work and offer support for a period of a month in 2014. The aim of Stepping Stones Uganda is to create sustainable solutions for communities. This includes things like clean water, self-composting toilets, permaculture skills (that’s growing food by the way), renewable energy sources, business ideas etc. The ultimate aim is to educate the community in as many things as possible (health, education, business etc) and provide them with the skills to basically survive.

Our intrepid hiking team, at this stage includes, Mike Matthews of Matthews & Co Chartered Accountants, Ed White of White Capital Consulting, Rich Pulman, Katherine Pulman and Tristan Griffin will be setting off at 5pm on the 15th May. imagesCAFCNS3CThe team of five will climb Ben Nevis aiming to be back in the car by 10pm. A six hour journey over to Scaffell Pike will see them start to scale the shorter of the three mountains at about 04:00 coming back down by 08:30. Then, it’s over to North Wales by midday to scale Snowdon and be back down for 16:30 and within the 24 hour window. Timing will be tight, however the team will be ably supported along the way using a support vehicle that has recently seen action in the Paris to Dakar rally.

If you would like to donate money to either of the charities above then please go to our JustGiving Team Page. Stepping Stones Uganda has only just been set up and doesn’t yet appear on Just Giving, however you can still donate to Maggies via  www.justgiving.com/teams/

Progress on training, fund raising, the event etc will be posted on to our news feed here, Twitter and on Just Giving too.
